Clean Air Teaneck
Purpose
We are a citizen group dedicated to keeping retail cannabis dispensaries only in the Alfred Avenue district of Teaneck, NJ
The next town council meeting will April 4 with Good and Welfare starting at 8:00 pm. Please come and show your support.
How did we get here?
In 2020 there was a state-wide vote in New Jersey to legalize cannabis (marijuana). The vote passed, and now it is legal to own, grow, manufacture and sell cannabis in New Jersey. In 2021, individual towns had to make a decision whether to "opt-in", and allow such businesses in their town, or "opt-out". Teaneck was one of the many towns that fully opt-ed in. This was done by a vote of the town council.
What is going on?
The current law in Teaneck states that cannabis dispensaries can only operate in the Alfred Avenue district of Teaneck. This group agrees that this is the most reasonable location for this type of business and wants the dispensaries to stay there.
So what's the big deal?
The owners of the dispensaries disagree and want to operate their business in any of the commercial districts of Teaneck. Those districts are:
Cedar Lane
Queen Anne Road
Palisades Ave
Teaneck Rd
Degraw Ave.
Clean Air Teaneck believes that having cannabis dispensaries in these main commercial areas is bad idea, for a few reasons.
Why dispensaries don't belong in commercial areas.
It reduces exposure to teens and children.
Reduces the foul odor that comes from cannabis smoke from regular pedestrain traffic
Research has shown there are small but measurable increases in quality of life crimes around dispensaries .
